Akvafjell is Petvin Sandström. He was born in 1964 and grew up in the city of Umeå in the north of Sweden.  He has been drawing and painting since childhood and is self taught in the field of arts. He was given his first camera at the age of 12 and the interest for photography grew quickly. At the age of 15 he had his own darkroom for developing black and white photographs.

Having a father that worked as a carpenter at the museum of Västerbotten in Umeå, provided the opportunity for Petvin to learn from and be inspired by the Swedish documentary photographer Sune Jonsson.

The focus is mainly on portraits, but also nature. He uses digital Nikon and Fujifilm cameras with mostly non-cpu lenses such as old Nikkors, Pentax Takumars, Meyer-Görlitz etc.

Petvin lives with his wife and children in the beautiful boreal community of Granö in Västerbotten, Sweden.

"I believe that the greatest beauty we have around us is people, people of all sorts. That is what fuels me in my photography and what I wish to portray, not just what we look like but who we are."
